First-grade students in Ms. Olivares and Ms. Vazquez class at Clearview Elementary recently brought their science learning to life with a field trip to the Brookfield Zoo last month.
As part of their CKLA unit on animal habitats, students learned about how animals meet their five basic needs—water, air, food, shelter, and space. In class, they created books featuring their own writing and drawings about animals and their homes, which will be published as part of an upcoming project. The visit to the zoo gave students the opportunity to see these concepts in action, observing how different animals live in a variety of habitats. The experience helped students make real-world connections to their classroom learning while exploring and comparing different environments.
